Fake Security Software Scams

Fake Security Software is a fast growing problem, and while this does not fit in as good as the Home Based Business Scams it is a scam and a sham and should be uncovered. This rogue security software will normally infect your computer with the programs you are trying to avoid. It will hide what it wants installed and do it’s bidding. This is dangerous as it will also give you a false sense of security.

When someone wants to sell you this fake security software they are going to tell you your computer is in danger and infected then they will say just download here to clean your computer. Some of these downloads will gather your information and send the data back to the developers or scam creators. Most of these software items will also give you false positives and you will really think your computer is infected. Free virus scans are a big source of malicious software implants and you should only use free software scans from trusted manufacturers.

Most of these fake security software packages will generate a lot of alerts and popups, they will have high pressure sales team that will try to convince you to purchase now. Hold off and do not buy that software go find a trusted resource for scanning your computer like Trend Micro or Symantec.

I have seen numerous people being tricked into buying this useless software and have to cancel credit cards and fight for months to try to get the money back. You can avoid some of these problems by doing a few simple steps.

Use Firefox, Chrome, or Safari for your internet browsing as it is more secure than Internet Explorer and because Internet Explorer has such a massive market share more software is written to work in it.

Do not open email attachments from people you do not know.

Do not click on any pop-up that advertises any type of security software or tells you that you have a virus.

If you get a popup with one of these I recommend hitting Control + W and it should close the window if it does not close the window try again. Do not click on the red X in the corner, do not hit cancel or anything else as those acts will probably trigger the download of this rogue software.

Do not use freeware or shareware in general is it is known to have flaws and can contain malware and spyware.
